Urban Senior Portrait Session

Sofia is such a cool girl. She is equal parts sweetness and sass. My goal was to capture as much of her personality in the best way possible. She’s so easy to get along with. And she is always up for anything. Even if it means asking to borrow a stranger’s table at a coffee shop! We had a lot of fun exploring the area, chatting about future plans, and just enjoying our time together. I love bonding with my seniors in an effort to ease any butterflies and make them feel as if they’re hanging out with a friend. The outfits she chose, both from Francesca’s, were perfect. And seriously, I think the girl could model professionally if she really wanted to. She made my job so easy.
Because she’s more of a city girl, she specifically wanted an artsy, urban vibe for her session. We chose NoDa, the arts district of Charlotte, NC. It has a ton of cool local boutiques, murals, adorable side streets, and just an overall eclectic feel. Since we were working in a lot of tight spaces, I mainly used my Sigma ART 35mm 1.4 for Nikon. If any photographers are looking for a new 35mm lens, I highly recommend this one. Sigma has outdone themselves with their ART series. I also used my Nikkor 85mm 1.8 for some of the side street shots, since we had a bit more room to work with.
Not long after her session, we met up for her ordering appointment. Besides a few favorite prints, she fell in love with one of the albums I offer. I like to refer to myself as a “full service photographer”, specializing in delivering a tangible product at the end of every portrait experience. Her album turned out beautifully. I know she’ll love being able to hand it down to her kids and grandkids one day.
