A Mom Captures the Sweet Innocence of Her Daughter
This little girl is a special one, not only because she’s mine, but because she has a personality that is much bigger than her years would indicate. She turned six in February, and I wanted to make sure that I captured this big personality. But I also wanted to capture her sweet innocence, which, before my eyes, is fading away more and more each day.
My goal with my clients, as well as with my own children, is to freeze time with my images so that they can look back on them years from now and smile because I captured that stage perfectly for them. This session did just that with my Lila.
I knew that I wanted this session to be special, so I styled her in a way that we do only for special occasions. I curled her hair, pinned it back ever so slightly, and added a cream lacy dress for detail. The session was shot in my favorite field. I use this field for the majority of my sessions because it gives them the same organic, simple feel. Lila loves to dance, so the only instruction I gave her during the session was to dance however she wanted. Meanwhile, I clicked the shutter continuously. Lila and I both enjoyed the shoot, but capturing her doing what she loves was what made this session so special for me. And, of course, the light that evening took my breath away.
At the end of the session, when the sun was barely peeking over the trees off in the horizon, I brought out a blanket and wrapped her in it. She adored this prop, and again, I let her direct the shoot from there as to keep things super natural and true to her. I was also able to get some great shots of her sweet curls, something that I want to remember for years to come when she’s too old to want me to do her hair.
