Natural Light Newborn Session by Annie Bleuer

For many reasons, this natural light newborn session is one of my favorite newborn sessions ever! Last year, when I heard my sister-in-law was pregnant, we immediately agreed that I would come photograph little baby boy when he was born. Even though I live almost 4 hours away, I eagerly packed up my “stuff” and hit the road for Buffalo, NY. Not only did I get to stay overnight in the new nursery (baby was with mommy), but I spent the whole day snuggling my new nephew, without having to share him with anyone else!
Little Bob is so used to the noise of his big sister and two dogs that he hardly budged the whole session, except once to eat. Big sister, Emily, was so excited to hold Bob and very cooperative with me. I love doing a family portrait with the older sibling “holding” the baby, and the parents holding both of them.
The key to a great family portrait, either at a newborn session or a family session, is the placement of the arms and hands. It’s important to have everyone connected and engaged with each other in a loving way, which is why I make sure to have everyone touching somehow.
Daddy is a big sports fan, especially of the Buffalo Bills. In baby’s nursery, he had installed two stadium seats from the former Buffalo Memorial Auditorium (affectionately called the Aud) and Emily made sure she was sitting in HER seat. She made sure to inform me that Bob had to be in his seat, too, and that it was not alright with her for them to be switched.
Other than the photos in the baby’s nursery, this whole session was done in front of a big living room window with beautiful natural light and a big beanbag.
