Not Used To Being Pretty

This session was a poignant reminder to me of why I LOVE to do what we get to do and how empowering clients is such an important part of the process. Midway through our session, this remarkable beauty looked at me and said, “Thank you. I’m not used to being pretty.”

It was all I could do not to drop my camera into the pool, hug her neck, and cry. Why is it that we listen to the negative voices telling us that we are not enough instead of seeing that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, gifted and capable… beautifully unique?

You Are Enough

Through our craft, we get to be that positive voice, shouting to our clients, “YOU are amazing. YOU are breathtaking. YOU ARE ENOUGH!”

There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing and FEELING the reaction of someone looking at one of my images of them, incredulous that it is really them. It is as if they are really seeing themselves for the first time.

And so it is worth it. The hours we spend studying posing so that we can teach our clients that pushing their chin forward and down may make them feel like a turtle, but it will make them look like a queen, are worth it. The money we spend on equipment that will allow us to shoot wide open at 2.2 to create a soft bokeh while nailing the focus on the eyes is worth it.

We are building people up, edifying them with our feed back, asking them, “Do you feel good? You are incredible.” Talking to them and laughing with them, establishing a connection with them that comforts and relaxes them. Showing them that they are more than how they see themselves.

They are worth it… and then some.
