Building a Maternity Wardrobe

Everyone knows the saying, “Dress for Success” or “Dress for the Part.” Well, every expectant mama wants to feel beautiful when pictures are taken of their baby bump, so they should be wearing something that makes them feel beautiful also!

As a photographer, I have now started to build my “Maternity Wardrobe” in my Atlanta studio for my expectant mamas!

Some mamas have a vision of what they would like to wear and purchase clothes on their own, which is great! But, for those who don’t have an idea of what looks best for photos, now I have some options for them!

I like the organic look and feel of neutrals, cotton, lace, and pieces that are flowy. I like to have options of pieces to show off the bare belly and options to keep the belly covered, but accentuate the cute baby bump. My collection is small right now, but I will slowly build up to have many options for my beautiful mamas!

This gorgeous mama below is wearing a maternity dress I purchased from Etsy  – Sew Trendy Accessories.

This is the most expensive item I own, but everyone always raves about the look of it and the color also! Sew Trendy Accessories sells many other options of maternity dresses that are perfect for a maternity photography session, so go check them out!

This next gorgeous lace piece is actually a swimsuit cover-up I purchased from Amazon.com. It’s a little short, so I also make sure I have little tan boyshorts they can wear underneath. I have a nude bralette to go underneath, as well! Isn’t this so pretty!!?

(In case you are wondering, I have the mamas wear their own underwear and bra underneath (bra straps tucked in) the bralette and the boyshorts. Then, I take them home and wash everything!)

The clothes in the next 2 photos were pretty items I found at Target in the women’s section! I purchased some flowy skirts, tank tops, shawls, and cardigans. Layers look good for photography, so throw a cardigan over that tank!

As for sizing, I purchase either “One Size Fits All” (dress and swim suit cover up) or I purchase size Large for the tanks, skirts, and cardigans. The boyshorts and the bralette tops I purchased size XL.

When you’re wearing something pretty, you can’t help but just “feel” a little prettier! And, I know most expectant mamas will want to feel a little “extra” pretty for their maternity session!
